The Meksem's lab has played an integral role in the establishment of soybean EMS-TILLING libraries (from cvs. FORREST and WILLIAMS82), which contain 6150 M2 families. We identified 5 to 8 point mutations per 1.5 Kbp of targeted DNA per 8-fold pool gel (representing 768 M2 plants);

The mutation frequency is ~1 mutation/170kb. Thereby screening a total of 6150 M2 families, may provide a series of 40 to 64 alleles within each 1.5Kb fragment of a target gene. Below is an example of mutation screen done at the Meksem’s lab using pools from two EMS-mutagenised soybean population (Forrest and Williams82) to identify putative mutant for a soybean Leucine Rich Repeat Receptor Like Kinase gene gm-Clavata1A (AF197946)
